The Story of Tea

 

About five thousand year ago there was a Chinese king called Shen Nung. One day he left his palace. He rode his horse in the fields. Then he became very thirsty. He found some dirty water. He decided to boiled the water. He made small fire and boiled some water. Some leaves fell in to the pot. When the water became cool, he drank the water. It tasted delicious. Shen Nung was the first person to drank tea. He returned to his palace and told the people about the drink. Soon tea became popular in China.

 

Tea trees:

Tea grow on tree called tea trees. Tea trees grow best in the mountains with warm and wet weather. They grow about 1 metre high. Tea is made from new leaves of the tree.

 

Tea in the world today:

People drink tea all over the world. The biggest producers are India, Indonesia, Sir Lanka, Kenya, Tanzania. The biggest consumer is Britain. They import 180,000tonnes every year.

 

Tea producers:

There are six steps in tea producers. First, people pick the leaves from the tea trees. Second, they wash the leaves. Third they dry the leaves in the sun. fourth, they cut the leaves into small pieces. Fifth, they keep the leaves until it turns brown. Finally they pack the tea.

 

 

Tea and Coffee Around the World

 

In Oman people drink coffee and tea. Oman has its own special coffee. People mostly drink this coffee with the Omani Halwa. This coffee is free of sugar or milk. Tea is prepared in different ways in Oman. Some people like to drink tea with no milk and called Sulaimani tea. Sometimes mint is added to tea and some other times Zanjabeel is used instead of mint. Well, I drink tea with milk and sugar.

In Britain people drink a lot of tea and some coffee. Some people drink five or six cups of tea every day. Most British people like milk and sugar in their tea and coffee.

In Thailand the weather is usually hot, so people like to drink tea and coffee with ice. Iced coffee has milk and sugar in it. Iced tea has sugar, lemon and mint leaves in it.

In Turkey people drink very strong, sweet, black coffee. They also drink very sweet, black tea. Because their tea and coffee are very strong, they usually drink from small cups.

In Japan people drink green tea when visitors come to their houses. They drink it from small bowls. Young Japanese people drink a lot of coffee. They usually drink it black.
